King Family Vineyards

Originally purchased with the primary intent of creating a polo facility, the grounds have ample space for kids to run around on a non-match day. Plus, kids love catching a glimpse of the horses in their barns or out in the paddock and families are welcome to walk over to peek at the horses during their visit.

Each Sunday from May through October, families enjoy a festive tailgate experience during free outdoor polo matches. In between events, spectators are welcomed to stomp the divots and families take the opportunity to throw a frisbee or football or simply run around to expel some energy. Sunday polo at King Family Vineyards is a celebrated Charlottesville tradition, and one not to be missed!

Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard

The winery is part of a historic property that housed a 1920’s-era dance hall as well as the first movie theater and swimming pool in the area. Since the current owners re-opened the property as a winery in 2021, they have sought to create a welcoming, community feel and kids love to explore the whimsical outdoor spaces.

The Tasting Room was designed as a contemporary residential space featuring expertly selected furniture, art installations and antique pieces. Outdoors, circus-inspired parasol tables face the beautiful mountains, vineyard views, and a stage for music performances. Families are welcome to bring food for children to enjoy whether they are seated indoors or outdoors, although adults may only bring food for themselves if sitting in the self-seated outdoor spaces. Additional food is available for purchase from the full menu.

Chisholm Vineyards at Adventure Farm

While the family-owned and operated farm has been serving the Charlottesville area since 1950, it was only in 2005 that the owner – then 81 years of age – decided to plant grapes and join Charlottesville’s growing winery scene. Chisholm’s first wines were made in 2012 and have grown to 8 varietals that are all estate grown on the 14-acre vineyard.
