The Charlottesville area is full of unique, gorgeous vineyards to visit and each has its own distinct atmosphere. Even in the late winter time, many of the wineries are still open for business and they're the perfect place to celebrate Valentine's Day with a glass of wine by a crackling fireplace.
While this list features several, romantic vineyards to visit for Valentine's Day, there are many more places to experience great wine in the Charlottesville area. 1. Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards
Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere with gorgeous views of Central Virginia's wine country. Pippin Hill's tasting room has a dinner menu available Tuesdays through Sundays, or you can attend one of their weekly, special events. They host Wednesday night cooking classes, a Thursday night dinner series, and a Sunday night s’mores event. From 1-4 p.m. on Sundays, you can enjoy a cozy winter afternoon with s’mores, hot chocolate, and wine! What could be better than that?
2. Glass House Winery
Glass House Winery has a tropical conservatory where you can stay warm, sip wine and enjoy gourmet chocolates made on-site. They also have outdoor seating options and often have live music on the weekends! Glass House is also one of several wineries in the area that offers on-site lodging at the Glass House Winery Bed & Breakfast.
3. Pollak Vineyards
The tasting room at Pollak Vineyards is open Wednesday through Sunday and it offers amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Valentine’s Day the perfect time to stop by this tranquil setting and enjoy great wine by their fireplace!
4. King Family Vineyards
King Family Vineyards is a family-run winery and vineyard, located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has one of the best sunset views and King Family's Crosé is the perfect Valentine's rosé to enjoy by the fire in their cozy, tasting room. Keep an eye out for Frank, the winery cat, who is known to make himself at home by the fire as well!
5. Barboursville Vineyards
Barboursville Vineyards has decades of winemaking experience and there are quite a few ways to enjoy their wines when you visit. Experience a wine tasting in the Discover Tasting Room, visit the iconic Library 1821, or relax outside with a picnic and a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can also book a table at the Palladio Restaurant to pair Barboursville wines with a delicious, Italian meal.
6. Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farm
Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farm is located about 15 minutes west of Charlottesville in Greenwood, Virginia. Open to visitors ages 21+, they offer indoor seating and heated, outdoor seating, where you can sip wine with a gorgeous view. Picnic packs with a selection of snacks are available to purchase and enjoy with your wine!
7. Knight's Gambit Vineyard
Knight's Gambit Vineyard is a family-owned and operated winery located outside of Charlottesville in the beautiful, rolling hills of Albemarle County. Enjoy a glass of wine next to one of their firepits or book a cozy, heated tent for the afternoon. Tents can accommodate up to eight of your friends and include two bottles of wine for the group.
8. Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard
Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard is one of the area's newest wineries, located east of Charlottesville in Keswick. In the winter months, Merrie Mill offers indoor seating options in their quirky and eclectic tasting room. Their décor makes for a great conversation starter! Merrie Mill also offers fire pit reservations so you can cozy up and enjoy the views outside.
