The spring season kicks off with family fun and live music events that continue throughout the year. In summer, the orchard is bursting with sun-ripened peaches just waiting to be picked. As temperatures cool, apple picking and pumpkins of all shapes and colors draw crowds from all over. In season, apples, peaches, nectarines, vegetables, flowers, and other produce are available ready-picked.
The Country Store and Bakery is brimming with unique gifts and specialty foods to discover, including famous apple cider donuts, homemade pies, fresh-pressed cider, and apple butter.
Located 1,120 feet above sea level, the Carter Mountain Wine Shop has the highest elevation of any tasting room in Charlottesville. Visitors can purchase wine by the glass, tasting flight, or bottle. The Bold Rock Hard Cider Taproom at Carter Mountain is open April - December and offers a rotating selection of ciders on tap.
Since 1912, Chiles Family Orchards—which includes Carter Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville, Chiles Peach Orchard in Crozet, Chiswell Farm and Winery in Greenwood, and Spring Valley Orchard in Afton—have grown to become community favorites and nationally-recognized agritourism destinations.
