James River Batteau Company offers one-of-a kind river experiences that get you out on the water in style! Take a step back in time, as you are invited aboard their 18th century replica James River Batteau for a River Tour, Sunset Cruise, or Private Charter. James River Batteaux are flat-bottom boats designed specifically to navigate the shallow waters of the James River. In the late 1700’s to mid 1800’s they brought trade up and down the James River. The batteau era played a pivotal role in our state and national history and today they are a perfect vessel to get you out on the river having fun!

James River Batteau Company offers two different river experiences, River Tours and Sunset Cruises. The River Tour is a uniquely Virginian experience. Whether you're looking for history, scenery, or simply a good time, hop on a batteau and soak in the sights and sounds of this fabled river with your family and friends. A Sunset Cruise is one of the most unique ways to take in the majesty of a Virginia sunset. This 2-hour experience pushes off from Scottsville and drifts down the river as the day fades. Enjoy their overflowing charcuterie boards and live acoustic music as night falls on the river.

Either River Tour or Sunset Cruise can be booked as part of a public tour or a private charter of the entire boat for your group.
