Live Arts

Live Arts Theater has been producing provocative, crowd-pleasing plays and musicals in downtown Charlottesville since 1990. In all these years, we have never presented the same play twice! Our mainstage season runs September through May and concludes with a three-week WATERWORKS festival featuring more than 25 new works by playwrights from Charlottesville and beyond. We also stage a teen musical every July and smaller preforming arts events throughout the year. See our website for full calendar of events.

Live Arts is located just one block off the Downtown Mall, adjacent to the Water Street Garage. Our four-story building contains two fully functioning theaters, meeting and rehearsal rooms, an expansive wrap-around terrace with great views of the sunset, and an elegant, open third floor lobby with a built-in bar and comfortable seating. When not in use for productions or year-round education programming, these spaces are available for rent at affordable rates.
