The Jungle Within - Annie Temmink with Trevor Kemp
Inside The Looking Glass - Free
Annie Temmink is an artist interested in inner archetypes and how we set our true nature free. Her work often involves movement combined with intricate headwear or creatures constructed from refuse. Annie has a background in sculpture and math and studied textile design internationally on a Watson fellowship. In the past, she's made celebrity stage costumes, headwear, and props for music videos, built a house, and co-taught a course on building gigantic creature puppets.
Trevor Kemp comes to the project with a background in engineering and enjoys working on multidisciplinary collaborations, both technical and creative. In the past, he's made hovercraft, electroluminescent costumes, non-invasive medical devices, electronic musical instruments, and robotic manta rays.
Talking with Flowers
"The spark for this project came from the sequence in Alvin Ailey's Revelations- the moment when a chorus of dancers hold folded fans and flap them vigorously at their fellow dancers. The fans evoke gossiping women. It's simple, yet I felt connected through this gesture. I wondered if creating that feeling of connection was possible by making plants talk to one another. As the piece came to life, it now makes me think about inner conversations, different facets of the self, and its many personalities and ways of opening and closing, becoming dull or illuminated." - Annie
