Charles Latham & the Borrowed Band will pull into Offbeat Roadhouse Friday night, March 28, for a concert which will also be broadcast on WTJU. Charles Latham is a singular voice in the North Carolina music scene - a bold and imaginative songwriter whose sharp wit, emotional depth, and magnetic performances have earned him comparisons to legends like Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Robyn Hitchcock.

This is a free event, open to all. You can also listen to Offbeat Roadhouse on the radio (91.1 FM) or on-line, and even video stream it at WTJU's Facebook page or YouTube channel. But concerts always sound better with you as part of the studio audience. WTJU is located at 2244 Ivy Rd in Charlottesville, right next door to Vivace. There is plenty of parking, both in our lot as well as the Sentara lot next door.

Charles Latham is a singular voice in the North Carolina music scene - a bold and imaginative songwriter whose sharp wit, emotional depth, and magnetic performances have earned him comparisons to legends like Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Robyn Hitchcock. After years of crisscrossing the U.S. and U.K., Latham put down roots in Durham, NC, in 2014. His 2017 album, Little Me Time, highlighted his talent for pairing razor-sharp lyrics with compelling melodies and expansive production. To bring his songs to life on stage, Latham formed The Borrowed Band, an ensemble of some of the region's most respected musicians, including former members of Ben Folds Five, Shooter Jennings, and 6 String Drag. Together, they deliver a captivating blend of ballads and barnstormers, drawing on the chemistry of vintage duets like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris while adding a modern twist.

Their 2020 self-titled LP, Charles Latham and the Borrowed Band, showcases the distinctive sound they've crafted - a fusion of Latham's idiosyncratic songwriting with vintage, psychedelic country-rock.

The band's follow-up album, Charles Latham and the Borrowed Band: II, was recorded with acclaimed engineer Jason Merritt (known for his work with Chatham County Line, Tift Merritt, and Kenny Roby) at a geodesic dome nestled in the shadow of Mount Mitchell. This new album is an exhilarating journey through Latham's vivid storytelling and genre-defying style, and is available on limited edition, hand-numbered vinyl with a cover illustration and insert by Latham.
