Chess Mates Spring Sessions

This class contains two sessions: one running from 4:15 - 5:15 pm, and another from 5:20 - 6:20 pm.

Does your child like to play chess? Are they interested in learning to play this timeless game? These multi-week classes focus on building an understanding of chess and having fun while developing creativity, executive function, and math skills. Chess Mates is offered once a season. For Spring 2025, we are excited to welcome new guest coach Barry Keith, a French and Spanish teacher at Monticello High School who is an avid chess player and tutor and the secretary of the Chess on Stamp Study Unit. Coach Barry is a mentee of longtime coach John Teixeira, a three-time Albemarle and Charlottesville area chess champion with more than 45 years of experience playing and coaching, who will be teaching his final Chess Mates session this spring.
