Get ready to air your grievances and celebrate the "Festivus for the rest of us" featuring Kendall Street Company, Disco Risque, and The Barons!
Virginia's Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey's McGee and Widespread Panic, songwriting of John Prine, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You'll laugh, you'll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated.
Disco Risqué spent the past ten years discovering its live sound across the country; high energy tunes, screaming guitar solos, fast drum and bass breaks, big horn and keys riffs…they'd found their style. So in the summer of 2023 the band holed up to record what would become the defining recorded sound of Disco Risqué, an album known to the world now as Evil on Tape.
Recorded at Dave Matthews' illustrious Haunted Hollow studios, Evil on Tape displays a total maturation of songwriting and arranging from the band. Delivering 5 singles including a cover of Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" the album showcases a moodier, more serious and arguably romantic side of the band that listeners have likely not seen or heard before. You'll still get a big chunk of the old school hairbrained progressive rock writes in songs like "Death Waltz" and "Ketamine Karate" but also a more focused serious side of the band with new singles like "Burnadetta" and the album's eponymous single "Evil on Tape."
However, not everything is new about Disco Risqué in 2024, you'll still see the same familiar faces smiling down at you from the stage. Charlie Murchie (guitar), Robert "Slim" Prescott (Drums), Ryan "Swimsuit" Calonder (vocals/trumpet), Andrew "The Champ" Hollifield (Bass), and Sean Hodge (Keys) ARE Disco Risqué, and they're out there keeping the funky rock n roll dance party of America alive! Keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground, cause they're coming to a town near you!
The Barons is a US alternative band comprised of lead singer and guitarist Peyton Alley, drummer Mathes Glymph, lead guitarist Josiah Ragland, and bassist Kirtland Gray. Forming in 2016, the Virginia natives' repertoire include various sounds ranging from heavy-hitting indie rock to a lighter fair of introspective love songs. The band's most recent record "rock! or go to the association." embodies both the beauty and destruction that coexist in The Barons' sound. The tunes have allowed The Barons amass a following among colleges on the East Coast as well as supporting alternative acts such as Judah & The Lion, The Aces, Barns Courtney, and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
