We're celebrating three of our soon-to-be graduates: Sophie Briscombe, Ben Furukawa, and Kylie Maupin!

As one of the newest a cappella groups on Grounds, the Flying Virginians, or more often referred to as the Flying V's after the Flying V guitar, were founded at the University of Virginia in 2009 by then-second year Lauren Groetch, who felt that the UVA a cappella music scene could use something more. The V's evolved into an a cappella group dedicated exclusively to singing rock and rock-influenced music, becoming UVA's premiere and only rockappella group arranging music from Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, the Four Seasons, and Aerosmith to The Killers, Paramore, Hozier, and Maroon 5.

​Since beginning with six members, the V's have gone on to perform in the Lighting of the Lawn, sporting events, Relay for Life, and gone to tour at other universities. In 2012 and 2015, the V's were honored with the Student Council's award for "Best CIO in the Arts" and are still dedicated to singing rock as a close group today.
