UVA Jewish Studies is pleased to announce that Christoph Schulte, Professor of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the University of Potsdam, will deliver a lecture entitled "From Mendelssohn to Adorno: Modern Jewish Intellectuals, Skepticism, and Progress" at 12 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025 in New Cabell Hall 236. Lunch will be served, and a time for questions and conversation will follow the presentation.
Professor Schulte has written over 150 articles, essays, and reviews, as well as five books, including most recently Zimzum: God and the Origin of the World, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in the Jewish Culture and Contexts book series. The book explores "zimzum"-the idea that God engages in self-limitation in order to create the world-across the Jewish and Christian intellectual history of Europe and North America over more than four centuries. The lecture is open to the public; no registration required.
