Rand Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) is an inventor who hasn't successfully invented anything. But this Christmas, he's bringing his family something special – a small, cuddly creature known as a mogwai. The little fella comes with three crucial instructions: Keep him out of the sunlight, never get him wet, and never, ever, ever feed him after midnight. If Rand and his son Billy (Zach Galligan) can adhere to these rules, sure, mogwai are great pets.

But, of course, they don't follow the rules and all hell breaks loose in sleepy little Kingston Falls. It's up to Billy and his girlfriend (Phoebe Cates) to stop the mischievous, murderous little monsters.
