Have you ever lived your life feeling like the underdog of your story? Have you felt disconnected from yourself and others? Do you love comedy, laughing with others, but also fear public speaking? Have you gone through a hardship that has held you back from finding empowerment in your story? Do you wish to learn to laugh, connect, and explore yourself in a safe collaborative, and inclusive setting? Then Improv for Misfits is for you! Improv is the art of play without a script. Heather Winslow, the director of the Healing Humor Lab has made her life mission to find science-backed humourous storytelling methods to help those who wish to find healing in their stories. Heather has been teaching comedy and storytelling in Central VA since 2017. She has used humourous storytelling to empower her own narratives. She is now in year two of her Interdisciplinary PhD. Her research is on the neuroscience of narrative rhetoric (storytelling) and humor perception. These classes will not only teach methods of improv through fun games and a safe setting, but will also teach a little brain science along the way.
