At 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, the Piedmont Master Gardeners will present "Invasive Species-Not All Plants Are Created Equal," a free Garden Basics class at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1118 Preston Avenue in Charlottesville. Participants will learn how to recognize and eradicate the top 10 invasive species in the Piedmont region, with a particular focus on invasives still sold in retail nurseries. They will also come away with a list of native species to plant in their place. In addition, the class will explain how invasives damage our ecosystems and their ability to support birds and other native fauna. To register and reserve a place in the class, visit http://piedmontmastergardeners.org/events/. Registration closes at 5 p.m. May 16 or when the class is full. Garden Basics is a partnership with the Bread and Roses ministry at Trinity Episcopal Church.
