On Sunday July 21st, The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU are pleased to welcome saxophonist and flutist Lynn Riley, with her band The World Mix. This is the first of several CJS concerts this summer and fall supporting a few of the many great female jazz instrumentalists

Lynn Riley and The World Mix will perform at The Front Porch in downtown Charlottesville from 4 to 7 pm July 21st A gifted instrumentalist and composer, Riley has impressed critics and audiences alike with her funky and accessible sound that is firmly rooted in the mainstream jazz tradition, while suffused with influences from a host of world music and the blues.

Based in Philadelphia, she has performed with David Murray, Grover Washington Jr. and Charles Earland, among others. She has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

Lynn received a B. A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawaii and a Masters in Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to performing, Riley has been on the faculty at Drexel University since 1999. Head to The Sky is her third and most recent recording with The World Mix, with whom she has performed for over 10 years.
