"This show is brought to you by things that make me want to paint and also make me grateful…

Starry nights on a sandy beach. The splashy sound of water. Sunshine on a cloudy day. The poetry of music. Metal- rusty, golden, shiny or green. The spontaneity of spray paint. The intricate Zen of a tiny brush. Cracks. Winding highways, faraway land and the colors in old magazines. The smell of clean laundry dried in the sun. Saints. The genius of others. The gentle easing of a worried mind." …p. ormsby

Patte Ormsby is a multidisciplinary artist with a degree in studio art and art history and a background in metal work and jewelry. Her use of metals, mineral pigment, and paint make these abstract landscapes a fine complement to the exquisite gemstone jewelry of Lee Marraccini and fellow Angelo artists.

Ormsby builds her paintings, layer upon layer with sprayed pattern, translucent oils, metal leaf, patina, rust and crackled varnish resists. Layers crack, emerge or dissolve, obscuring or revealing underlying levels of color and shape, as though peeking through portals of surface to add the illusion of depth and the passage of time.

Ormsby: "My paintings are informed by the lessons of art history- of Medieval altar pieces and Renaissance holy works. They are driven by the cracked swirling nights of Albert Pinkham Ryder. My aim is to trap the mysterious sacred essence of this art, set it free in mine, and let it seep quietly into the hearts of my viewers."
