The Brooklyn neighborhood of Gowanus has undergone massive changes due to the implementation of new rezoning policies in recent years. Many buildings have been demolished and numerous excavation sites have appeared to make way for the latest constructions, rendering the area almost unrecognizable. The future landscape of Gowanus exemplifies the aftermath that many Brooklyn localities are currently experiencing or are likely to face soon.

In the exhibition Rezoning: At What Cost?, multidisciplinary designer Tatiana Lahera Kalainoff captures Gowanus in a detailed data project that translates the impact of rezoning on affordable housing. By inviting audiences to engage with a physical interactive model of the urban quarter, the work aims to rebuild a connection between people and policy.
