The annual Scoper Lecture in Christian Thought hosts a leading figure at the intersection of faith and life in such fields as law, medicine, journalism, and more to offer a free, public lecture at UVA. As Theological Horizons celebrates its 25th anniversary at UVA, this year's lecture features co-founder and UVA Commonwealth Professor of Religious Studies Dr. Charles Marsh.
Join us at 5 PM on March 29th in the Dome Room for an engaging evening featuring the insights gleaned from Marsh's many years immersed in the highest levels of the academic study of religion. Hear his commitment to the contribution of theological inquiry to rigorous scholarship, a view shaped by his career practicing this perspective in his teaching, writing, and leadership. Listen to his refreshing account of the ideas sparked, relationships fostered, and bridges built through seriously engaging religious faith in high-level scholarship.
"Authentic faith always finds a way to break free from incarceration in ideological and political gulags," writes Charles Marsh, who calls for "a bold retrieval of the spiritual disciplines of forgiveness, reconciliation, and the preferential option for nonviolence, which have always shaped the social vision of true Christianity."
