Join us for a two-day intensive stop-motion animation workshop geared towards young people ages 11–14, taught by Joe Vena. The workshop will take place at Kluge-Ruhe on April 26 and 27 from 11am–3pm each day. Inspired by the exhibition Milpa: Stop-motion animation by Spinifex Artists, this workshop features a complete introduction to stop-motion animation and a tutorial in the necessary software/equipment. After the introduction, participants will fully engage in this classic technique to create their own animated short films. We will explore animation with various materials, including paper, clay and found objects.

Joe Vena is a teaching artist in Charlottesville, Virginia. He has designed and facilitated various arts education programs and art making experiences for Lighthouse Studio, Ix Art Park, Violet Crown Cinema, Alakazam Toys and DMR Adventures. He is a member of McGuffey Art Center, where he shares a studio.

This workshop is free to attend. Registration is required and children must be accompanied by an adult. To register for the workshop, please email Jaimeson Daley at yjq6mw@virginia.edu
