A six-week workshop every Monday from 10/7-11/11. The first class is offered free so you can dip your toe in and see if you vibe with it--then it will be $160 for the workshop paid through Venmo, Paypal, or Cash A creative writing workshop with no emphasis on grammar and all emphasis on rewriting our stories and memories using humor perception. Each class will begin with fun improv games to warm up our storytelling brains, then we will learn a short brain lesson on cognition, memory, humor, and writing. Then we will workshop our stories. Each week I will assign you to write a 350-600 word story. There is never pressure to be funny. This is a safe space setting designed from the Anti-Racist Writing Workshop values.

About the instructor: Heather Winslow has been performing comedy in central VA for almost fifteen years. She has taught creative writing, stand-up, and improv for seven years. She has also produced and hosted several comedy shows in the Cville area. Heather is a mom, UVA grad, and interdisciplinary PhD student who has PTSD and with the help of humor writing and therapy has found a helpful creative outlet. She researches the neuroscience of humor perception and wishes to find science-backed data that can help provide resources to marginalized communities where poverty and PTSD go hand in hand.
